Due to a free weekend from league action we travelled to Caerleon to play the 2nds.
With holidays and work commitments it was a changed pack from what started last weekend. Tight head Connor Griffiths was added straight into the starting team after signing back from Blaenavon RFC with Grain Bright moving over to the loose head. Oillie White was promoted from the bench to starting 2nd row with Jack Swinn with Lyndon Ward moved to the blindside flanker position. Bradley Jenkins and Dan Williams kept their places after strong performances last weeks.
The scrum was solid from the start which become forgeside downfall with the hosts moving to passive scrums.
Forgeside defence was strong again with 100% commitment given by the whole team.
In particular the back three of Walker, Grout and Meredith continued the good work they put in last week. A centre partnership of Ben Penry and summer signing Aeron Pearce gelled quickly and gave glimpses of things to come.
Stand in scrum half Gareth Baxter recovered well from his hand injury to start the game with club captain Dan Fieldhouse outside him.
Man of the match was Lyndon Ward
Final score 14-0
Coach Jason Bright was happy with the performance by the players over the last two weeks but now the focus switches to the league with our first game home Saturday to Aberyschan.
