David Taylor Garages has been a constant presence in Crickhowell since the 1960's. David Taylor, an apprentice electrician, mechanic and body sprayer worked for a garage in a nearby town but saw an opportunity for a new business in Crickhowell, so he and his wife Nicola set about getting the new garage business off the ground from a small shed in the village. In 1970 David Taylor acquired the site in Llangattock where he turned green fields into a home for his family and a purpose-built workshop and showroom for the expanding business. The business grew and expanded to included haulage, recovery and several Petrol Stations. All three of his children came into the business from school and became integral members of the business. Each one taking on a role and fulfilling it to the best of their abilities. In 1997 all three children were made directors. David Taylor Garages old photo His eldest son Gene, after working from the bottom up at 16 years old (he spent a lot of time sweeping the workshop floors and learning the servicing and mechanical side of the business therefore he understands the vehicles inside and out), took on the role of Salesman. Over the years there have been several franchises including Ford, Hyundai and SsangYong. It was in1987 after a lot of debate that the Isuzu franchise contract was signed and what started as a small enterprise has grown over the years into a very successful franchise. In 1988 Gene and his brother Scott with a travel journalist drove from John O’Groats to Lands’ End non-stop (apart from essentials) in an Isuzu in what we believe to be the first ever time a 4x4 did this trip and to raise money for Charity. Gene and his wife Chris took over the business buying out family members in May 2020 during the Covid 19 pandemic and are now building, improving and modernising the business ready for following generations to carry on the good work and to keep the name going. With most of our sales customers being farmers, builders, contractors, engineers, word of mouth referrals and repeat customers, confidence in the company is very high. As Gene and his family are also farmers, he can understand the exact needs and requirements of most people who walk through our doors. David Taylor Garages Gene David Taylor (Garages) Ltd is now the oldest and largest Isuzu franchise in the UK and has been top Isuzu dealer in the UK many times over the years including 2020 and has even been top dealer in Europe! It has also won awards for top accessories dealer, top parts dealer and top finance dealer numerous times over the 30 plus (35 currently) years.
